Vitamin A: Full of Immune Boosting Power

All humans need a balanced diet that can provide them with the necessary vitamins and minerals they need to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Vitamin A plays a very important role in this, and unfortunately many people are lacking this essential nutrient. Studies have shown that vitamin A can help with eyesight (particularly night vision), strengthen the immune system, and aid in healthy skin, just to name a few. Often, it’s referred to as beta-carotene and this is a more commonly used term when purchasing vitamin A in its supplemental form.
This very important vitamin can be found naturally in many different fruits and vegetables including carrots, broccoli, apricots, and pumpkins, just to name a few. Vegetables with a rich, dark green color, such as collard greens, or an orange color are often abundant with vitamin A. Eggs are another excellent source. While most people in developed nations don’t have a vitamin A deficiency, some children may be found to have one if they don’t begin eating a proper diet at a young age. Many people in third world countries have been discovered to have the deficiency. Often this is due to a lack of access to foods rich with the vitamin.
Some scientists believe the anti-oxidant power of vitamin A is an excellent resource for fighting cancer. It has also been known to support the immune system, which can help prevent sickness and disease. While most people get vitamin A from their diets, some are lacking, but this can be corrected through the use of supplements. In most cases it is recommended that you receive your vitamin A daily intake through foods naturally or through the assistance of a multivitamin. You may also opt to take vitamin A separately, but this is usually only recommended for those who have been diagnosed with a deficiency.
Vitamin A is a vitamin that most people don’t think about very often simply because it’s one that most people have a healthy level of naturally. But, it’s a very important part of anyone’s nutritional plan. It helps to maintain eyesight as well as liver function and a healthy immune system. For that reason, it’s wise to eat plenty of green and orange fruits and vegetables as well as eggs in order to make sure to take in sufficient amounts of vitamin A. Before taking a separate vitamin A supplement, analyze your diet. If you are getting enough of the proper foods, taking lower levels of vitamin A as part of a multivitamin may be sufficient.
