Vitamin C for Immunity and Weight Loss

Vitamin C supplements are one of the most commonly taken of all health supplements, and for good reason. Vitamin C is one of the essential nutrients needed by the human body. There are serious health consequences associated with the lack of vitamin C. The vitamin is present in many everyday fruits and vegetables, but for those who aren’t getting enough, a vitamin C health supplement may be necessary. Vitamin C deficiency can cause gum disease, tooth problems, muscle pain, nosebleeds, fatigue and weak bones. Scurvy, one of the most serious illnesses associated with vitamin C deficiency, is rare but can be fatal.
The body uses vitamin C for the formation of collagen in the skin as well as the proper maintenance of the body’s tendons, ligaments, bones, teeth and muscles. It has also been shown in several recent studies to be helpful in increasing the number of white blood cells in the body, thereby boosting the immune system. The immune system is the body’s best defense mechanism against illnesses, including the common cold. Taking vitamin C has been shown many times to help the body fight off colds and other illnesses.
The latest data also shows that vitamin C may be helpful as a weight loss supplement. A large-scale study conducted recently showed that taking vitamin C resulted in less fat being deposited on the abdomen. So, to keep the body running smoothly, teeth and bones strong and less fat on the abdomen, eat a diet rich in vitamin C. And if your diet may be lacking, consider one of the many different types of vitamin C supplements.
Who Needs Vitamin C?
Everyone. Every person in the world needs some degree of vitamin C to maintain their overall health. But, some people do need more vitamin C than others. Those who have had surgery, or will have surgery, need extra vitamin C in order to heal properly. Smokers also need extra vitamin C in order to avoid damaged skin and to combat the free radicals that are causing them internal cell damage.
